The innovative semi-detached properties, were built for NGN in partnership with the Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and fellow gas distribution network company Cadent. Britain's first hydrogen homes manufactured for the purpose of demonstrating the benefits of hydrogen heating systems.

Client Overview

Northern Gas Network are known to deliver gas to over 2.7 million homes. As part of the Governments climate change ambitions, the company have partnered with other businesses to bring an innovative solution to both build and solve a cleaner and greener future, and achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

We are very proud that NGN chose us and our innovative building method to build the first ever homes using this revolutionary hydrogen technology. NGN secured the project by obtaining £250,000 of funding from the BEIS Hy4Heat competition which aims to establish whether it is technically possible, safe and efficient to use hydrogen for heating homes and commercial buildings.

The project itself went worldwide in the media, with the news appearing in press outlets such as The Guardian, The Times and even CNBC in USA.

Site Conditions: 

The site was within an area of land used by Northern Gas Networks as a Gas Research & Development facility. The site was a large area of concrete, with the houses located on a pad foundation.

Installation Duration: 

48 hours.
